Our Favorite Zoo Animal Cards

Marcia and I had a fun time making cards using our favorite zoo animals!

Marcia's Card

Here is a card I made using the newly released Quickutz Lion Revolution die. What I love about Quickutz is that most of their die cuts are so easy to piece together. For this particular die, all I had to do was glue the face to the mane. I also used a Rectangle Nestabilities die for my mat and then cut 2 more straight rectangles to mat the scalloped mat. I used the Sizzlits Fruit Smoothie alphabet set to create the W-I-L-D. The lion and letters were made using DCWV textured card stock. The leaves were made with the leaf stamp from the Stampendous "Changito" Clear Stamp set and stamped on Stampin' Up Old Olive card stock using Tsukineko Brilliance ink in Pearlescent Ivy. The background paper is from Creative Imaginations.

Wild Lion

Kat's Card

The shaker card technique is the inspiration for this card. The frame is attached only at the top and the bottom left and right corners, leaving the sides 'opened' to give the monkey enough room to 'swing' when you move the popsicle stick.

To make the card ~~

1- Emboss the card with your choice of Cuttlebug embossing folders. For the top of the card I used the D'vine Swirl embossing folder and the Swiss Dots embossing folder for the bottom of the card.

2- Die cut or stamp an image of your favorite zoo animal. The monkey is a Sizzix die. Don't forget to add googly eyes for extra fun !

3- Die cut a frame with Nestabilities Square dies. Tape a piece of transparency to the inside of the frame.

4- Attach monkey to popsicle stick with tape or glue.

5- Place monkey down on card. Attach frame over monkey with dimensional tape to top of frame and bottom corners. To determine the length of the tape for the bottom corners, it's important to check that the monkey does not slip through the bottom middle opening.

6- Die cut letters for MONKEY FUN. I used Sizzix Fruit Smoothie letters for the MONKEY and Cuttlebug Kids Tadpole alphabet letters for the FUN.

7- Add embellishments

8- Swing monkey!

Kat's Card

This card is a simple and fun card to make.

1. Die cut 2 circles using the Wizard Nestabilities Die Set- Circle with red cardstock. I wanted the top of the apple to overlap a little with the bottom so cut one circle a little more than 1/2 for the bottom and cut the second circle for the top - eyeball so that it overlaps the bottom. Punch holes in the top and bottom and attach with a brad (with stem).

2. Die cut 1 scallop square using the Wizard Nestabilities Die Set-Scallop Square.

3. Die cut branch, leaves, and heart with Sizzix Scribbles #7. Don't have this die? Not to worry .... Create another design with rubber stamps, stickers, or a computer generated image.

4. Stamp and color Penny Black Hedgehog.

5. Stamp Happy Birthday. I attached the Happy Birthday text on a cord and glued it down and used the heart to hide the top of the cord. I made another card and stamped the word SMILE directly on the blue square.

6. Assemble - Attach scallop square to the card. Position and attach Hedgehog in the apple so that the top covers the hedgehog when 'closed'. Attach apple (with hedgehog) to card, making sure to attach the apple bottom only. Embellish card with your choice of design.
